Spyros Kontogiannis
Associate Professor
Spyros Kontogiannis is a Faculty Member at the Computer Engineering and Informatics Department of the University of Patras (Greece). He collaborates also with the Algorithms and Complexity Group at the Computer Technology Institute & Press "Diophantus". In the past he has been postdoc fellow (2 years) and research associate (1 year) at the Max Planck Institut fuer Informatik. He got his Computer Engineering & Informatics Diploma and his Phd in Computer Science from the Polytechnic School at the University of Patras.
Christos Zaroliagis
Professor
Christos Zaroliagis is a Full Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering & Informatics, University of Patras (Greece), and a Senior Research Associate in the Computer Technology Institute & Press “Diophantus” (Patras, Greece). He held previous positions at the Max-Planck-Institute for Informatics (Saarbruecken, Germany) and the Department of Informatics, King's College, University of London (UK). He was also a visiting Professor and KIT Distinguished Research Fellow of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany). He specializes in the interplay among intelligent algorithm engineering, optimization, decentralized computing, cryptography & information security and their application in large-scale networks and systems, with a special focus on mobility in smart cities, intelligent transportation systems, and big data analysis. He has extensively published in major international journals and conferences, and has received numerous invitations from international conferences and leading academic institutions to give talks about his work. He is serving/served as editor or guest-editor in academic journals (ACM Journal of Experimental Algorithmics, Algorithms, Journal of Discrete Algorithms), and as member or chair in several Program and Organizing Committees of leading international computer science conferences. In the last 20 years he has participated as a coordinator and/or key researcher in several research projects funded by EC or by the Greek State. He has received various distinctions for his work (prize award 2012 for Academic and Scientific Excellence awarded by the Greek Ministry of Education, KIT Distinguished Research Fellow, Mercator Fellow). He is a member of ACM, IEEE, and EATCS.

Damianos Gavalas
Professor
D. Gavalas is employed as Professor in the Department of Product and Systems Design Engineering in the University of the Aegean, Greece, and Adjunct Professor in Hellenic Open University.
Over the past few years he has conducted research in the fields of mobile/pervasive/distributed computing, augmented/virtual reality, wireless adhoc networks, optimizations algorithms, transportation systems, web technologies, mobile code, network and systems management, e/m-commerce.
He has co-authored over 185 publications on the above subjects, published in international journals, book chapters and conference proceedings, which have received over 4800 citations (h-index: 33, i10-index: 83). He has also co-authored three books (written in the Greek language) covering the thematic areas of wireless networks, distributed systems and mobile technologies, respectively.
He has extensive teaching experience in both undergraduate and postgraduate level, in courses related to web design and development, web-based multimedia, hypermedia technologies, computer networks, electronic commerce, databases fundamentals, distributed systems, mobile & pervasive computing and wireless networking.
He has supervised three completed PhD dissertations and dozens of final year and MSc projects.
He serves as editorial board member of Journal of Network and Computer Applications (Elsevier), Personal and Ubiquitous Computing (Springer), Information Technology & Tourism (Springer) and Sensors (MDPI). He has co-chaired the IEEE WiMob 2020 conference as well as the MobiSensor (2010-2012) and ISUT (2017-2018) international workshops.He has also served as TPC member in numerous (> 100) leading conferences and guest-editor in highly ranked journals in the fields of mobile and wireless communications.
He has acted as external reviewer for research proposals submitted to H2020 FET OPEN, Research Promotion Foundation (Cyprus), Italian Ministry for Education, University and Research (MIUR), Polish National Science Centre (NCN), Greek General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT), etc. He has participated as a coordinator and/or key researcher in several research and development projects funded by Greek national and European funding bodies, including TouristHub and SocialPARK (GSRT), SMARTBUY (H2020-ICT-2015/687960), HoPE (EC/CIP7/621133), MOVESMART (EC/FP7/609026), eCOMPASS (EC/FP7/288094), VESPER (EC/IST-1999-10825), OPTIMIST (EC/IST-1999-12501).
Vlasios Kasapakis

Vlasis Kasapakis completed his PhD in the field of “Pervasive Games” entitled “Pervasive role playing games: development and evaluation of a research prototype” in 2016. He is an Assistant Professor at the Cultural Technology and Communication Department of the University of the Aegean responsible for “3D Graphics and Mixed Reality” (2018) and has been working as a appointed lecturer for mobile and diffused calculation of 3D graphics for the pre and postgraduate study programs of the Department. His research activities include mobile and diffused calculation of pervasive games, the design and development of mobile applications and web application in the sectors of tourism and culture, as well as the development of mixed, augmented and virtual reality application. He has participated in a large number of projects co-funded by national and European funds (e.g. H2020 SMARTBUY, CIP7 HoPE, FP7 MOVESMART, FP7 eCOMPASS, etc).
Charalampos Konstantopoulos

Charalampos Konstantopoulos is an Associate Professor at the Department of Informatics of the University of Piraeus, Greece. He specializes in the areas of algorithms and complexity, combinatorial optimization, parallel and distributed computing, interconnection networks, mobile computing, sensor and ad-hoc networks, text compression, and video & image processing.
Grammati Pantziou
Professor
Grammati Pantziou received her Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Patras, Greece, in 1991. She served as Assistant Professor at Dartmouth College and at the University of Central Florida, USA, and as Professor atthe Department of Informatics of the Technological Educational Institute of Athens, Greece. Since 2018 is a Professor at the Department of Informatics and Computer Engineering of the University of West Attica, Greece. Her research interests include algorithmic techniques for optimization problems, parallel and distributed computing, mobile ad-hoc & wireless sensor networks, IoT applications, and security and privacy issues in pervasive environments. She has edited 5 books and has co-authored 11 books andbook chapters and over 150 research articles in major international journals and conference proceedings. She serves as editor ofthe Algorithms Journal, MDPI, as associate editor of the Security and Communication Networks Journal (Wiley) and guest-editor of 10 journal special issues in the fields of computing, wireless communications and IoT. She has participated as scientific coordinator and key researcher in more than 26 research projects funded by the European Community, the Greek State, and the National Science Foundation, USA.

Dimitrios Amaxilatis
Postdoc Researcher
Dimitrios Amaxilatis, received his MEng (2011), MSc (2014) and PhD (2018) in Computer Science and Engineering from the Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics in the University of Patras. Dimitrios has strong back-end and front end development skills. He worked for 7 years as a researcher at the Computer Technology Institute of Patras, Greece where he has participated in 7 European Research Projects including WISEBED, SPITFIRE, Organicity and GAIA, and co-authored over 50 scientific publications in areas related to Wireless Sensor Networks, the Internet of Things, Smart Cities and Big Data Analytics.
He is an Adjunct Faculty at the Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics, University of Patras, teaching the Distributed Systems (2019-2021) undergraduate course. He was also involved in the foundation of two technological start-ups, Codebender and Sensorflare, for developing an online IDE for programming microcontroller devices and managing IoT devices respectively.
Currently he is the CTO of the SparkWorks ITC Ltd., working on full stack Internet of Things applications, edge and cloud data analytics. Dimitrios is also a founding member of the Patras Hackerspace (operating since 2011), and a member of the Patras Linux Users group.
Stavros Athanasopoulos

Stavros Athanassopoulos is a tenured Lab Lecturer at the University of Patras. He graduated from the Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics of the University of Patras. He also holds an M.Sc. in Computer Science and Technology and a Ph.D. in computer science with a Dissertation title "Efficient algorithms for energy distribution in wireless networks" from the same department. He has worked for more than 20 years in R&D projects with European, national, and international funding. Research interests: Design and analysis of algorithms, computational complexity, approximation and online algorithms, algorithmic aspects of communication and networks, ICT in education, liquid democracy, electronic voting, artificial intelligence and morality, reinforcement learning.
Anastasia Kampyli
PhD Researcher
Anastasia Kampyli received her MSc from the Department of Computer Engineering & Informatics in the University of Patras, Greece in July 2021. She received her MEng in Computer Science and Engineering from the same Department in 2019. Currently, she is a Phd Candidate. Her research interests include big data analysis, machine learning, incentive-based algorithms, smart parking solutions and applications.

Paraskevi Machaira received her MSc from the Department of Computer Engineering & Informatics in the University of Patras, Greece in October 2021. She also holds a MEng from the same department. Her research interests include algorithm engineering, route planning and navigation, and mobility in smart cities.
Andreas Paraskevopoulos

Andreas Paraskevopoulos received his MEng, MSc and PhD from the Department of Computer Engineering & Informatics, University of Patras, Greece. He is currently a Postdoc Researcher specializing in the areas of algorithm engineering, optimization, route planning, mobility in smart cities, and intelligent transportation systems.
Vasileios Sophianos
MSc Researcher
Vasileios Sophianos received his BSc from the Department of Mathematics at the University of Patras in July 2023. He is currently pursuing his MSc in the Department of Computer Engineering & Informatics at the same university, expected to be completed in March 2025. His research interests are algorithm engineering and optimization.
Nikolaos Vathis
PhD Researcher
Nikolaos Vathis received his MEng from the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the National Technical University of Athens. He is currently a PhD candidate at the Department of Informatics and Computer Engineering in the University of West Attica. His research interests focus on Optimization, Heuristic Algorithm design and the Orienteering Problem.
